In 1999, I bought my first token Lamancha buck kid. I soon discovered that these "earless" goats are very addictive. Quickly the number of goats in my life grew. My herd now consists of about twenty animals; which is all I am able to manage with work and earning my engineering degree. For these reason I am not able to attend as many shows as I would like.
I grew up in a family where breeding show quality animals is regular procedure from horses, chickens, dogs, to now goats; the same basic principals apply. I believe in a breeding program which emphasizes quality over quantity. I continually strive to improve my herd using a good strong pedigree and physical attributes. Since I am the one that lives with these animals day in and day out, temperment is also a major factor of my breeding program. Milking does participate in the DHI program and the herd is appraised every few years to help maintain a quality breeding program.
The herd is tested twice annually for CAE through WASU. All animals are raised in a CAE preventative program. The kids are dam raised for the first couple of weeks and then pulled to be bottle fed until weaning. Animals are vaccinated with a CD&T preventative every four months. Pregant does have boosters a month out from kidding along with their BOSE shot. Vitamn blocks, lose minerals, and baking soda are made available for free choice. The herd is certified and accredited TB/Brucellosis free and also participates in the Scrapie Eradication program. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have about my herd. Thank you.
